South Africa will spend around R30 billion ($3.7 billion) on hosting the 2010 World Cup, according to a report released yesterday.
"This report shows we have complied with literally every guarantee we have made, we even went beyond that," Sports Minister Mike Stofile told the SAPA news agency.
Approximately R20 billion has already been made available for infrastructure investment and other World Cup projects, confirmed Stofile at the handing over ceremony of the 2010 mid-term government report.
South Africa is spending this huge amount of cash mostly on road infrastructure, transport and building new stadiums and the final figure is just an estimate.
Before adding new stadiums in Cape Town and Durban, the original estimate was $295 million. Don't be surprised it at the end of the day, it's a lot more than the £3.7 billion.
