World Cup tickets on sale for cash and phase three of ticketing process starts next month

There is talk that as of April this year, if you are a South African resident, you will be able to buy tickets for the World Cup starting in June, for cash. This is something The Local Organising Committee are looking at as ticket sales by South African residents is extremely low.

Basically, if you want to watch a football match in South Africa, you turn up on the day with your cash and hand it over. If you are lucky and more often than not you are, you get a ticket. Sometimes, not often, you get your money back and no ticket, but it is rare.

At the moment, the only way to get a ticket is to order online via the FIFA website and to do this you need a bank account. Most South Africans don't have internet access and of those that are big football fans, most wont have a bank account. This will definitely sell more tickets but it will also increase the business for ticket touts.

Danny Jordaan
We are definitely in the process of changing this and as a member of the ticketing committee, I am confident that FIFA will understand our position.

So, in April, towards the end of the third phase of the ticket sales, South African residents should be able to buy tickets for cold hard cash. If you are not in South Africa and you are looking for tickets, you are going to have to wait until February 9th, when the third phase of the ticket sales process begins on the FIFA website - the only official place to buy match tickets.

Also - be careful when buying tickets. Read this to learn more.
