It looks like work on all the stadiums for the 2010 World Cup could grind to a halt next week after the National Union of Mineworkers confirmed that all the papers were filed and employers were informed.

"We are expecting everything to come to a standstill until we get what we want," National Union of Mineworkers spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said earlier this week.

Work had already pretty much stopped at the Durban stadium because of a dispute over money. This next strike, set to begin on Tuesday, will not do the 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) any favours.

It's not that the LOC have anything to do with building stadiums, it's that this strike is going to be global news next week because it impacts the developments for the next World Cup.

The LOC will have to get involved because every day construction is held up is an extra day closer to the start of the tournament and there is still so much to be done. There is no passing the buck on this, it has to get fixed before next Tuesday.
