Uruguay v Ghana: World Cup 2010 quarter final preview

This is what your football pundit, that wants to try to keep everyone happy, will describe as 'hardly the glamour tie of the round', probably with a Scottish accent or better still, with a little grin on his face that says he made it, just in time, before having to retire.

For me, this is one of the ties of the round because for me, one of these two deserve a crack in the semi-finals of the World Cup and one of them will get it. I secretly hope for Ghana, like I secretly hope to get hold of Alan Hansen and Gary Lineker, lock them in a room for a month and play the theme tune for The Littlest Hobo non stop, day and night, so hopefully they will understand what it is like.

Match Details

  • Venue: Soccer City, Jozi
  • Date: Friday, 2 July 2010
  • Kick-off: 8.30pm

Uruguay

I've enjoyed watching Uruguay in this World Cup and more importantly, I think they've enjoyed playing. They drew with France in their first game but have since then beaten South Africa, Mexico and South Korea and at all times they have looked good.

It doesn't hurt having the likes of Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez up front for you and we expect these two to shine again in this match.

Ghana

Everyone wants an African team to do well in the World Cup and I'm no different. I'd love Ghana to do well and for all their organisation, ability and enthusiasm, I think this is the end of the road for them.

Don't hate me, I just think that when you look at the results both sides have had in the World Cup, the closest thing we have to current form, then you have to opt for Uruguay.

Opposition View

Uruguay coach, Oscar Tabarez
We are calm. But we know the important thing is the match, not how we feel today.
Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac
We'll try to relax. It's good for us to be there. We have no obligation but we will do our best to write history.

Prediction

We would love it if Ghana won, just love it which is why we are not going to bet against them. We are in fact, not going to pick a winner. Our prediction is and this is where you need to get your money, is that Luis Suarez scores at any time in the game. If you pick him and have a bet and he does - you will nearly double your money.

So, come on Ghana - write history.
