FIFA have confirmed that the commercial rights to the 2010 World Cup were sold for a total $3.4 billion, a whopping 30% more than the last tournament two years ago.
The final rights sale was completed last week with Nigeria, FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke told delegates at the Soccerex conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
While this is 30% more than Germany, FIFA are expecting to generate revenues of $3.7 billion for Brazil in 2014 and while no estimates have been made yet, you've got to fancy that will be easily beaten if football returns to it's spiritual home, England, in 2018.
There was not a single time a commercial partner asked for a reduction, said Valcke, who used to act as FIFA's marketing director.
