The Dutch dump Brazil out of World Cup

The Dutch didn't get lucky and Brazil didn't play poorly - this was a deserved win - this was the right result.

It is also a good result for the rest of the World Cup because every team will now believe they have a chance of winning it and that is a good thing.

Brazil were reduced to ten men but not before the Dutch went 2-1 up and Melo deserved to go. He stamped on Robben when on the ground - it was the type of stamp that would have got a red card every single time - there is no way it could be seen as anything other than malicious.

I also don't want to look too far into the future but the Dutch will now play the winner of the Uruguay v Ghana match kicking off at 8.30pm tonight and if they play like they have played throughout this entire tournament - they will win.

The Goals

Brazil took the lead early on from a very special move. Melo picked up the ball just before the half way line and played a pass right through the heart of the Dutch midfield and past their back four to Robinho, who was running from the left - he only had to look up and shoot.

It maybe wasn't the best goal you will see at this World Cup but it did look good and to be able to see something like that is special.

Brazil went in at half time 1-0 and we predicted two things; more goals and a sending off. We were not disappointed in the second half.

The first came from a cross from Wesley Sneijder. That was it - it was a cross and everyone missed it and it went in. One each and it was the perfect start to the second half.

Then, in the 68th minute a corner is played in by Robben and is flicked on by Dirk Kuyt and that man Wesley Sneijder is in the right place again to head into the goal - 2-1 and if the Dutch are in the driving seat and smell victory.

Five minutes later was the sending off and while Brazil did try and did push up - the Dutch had chances to score more. This was the right result for the football the Dutch played and their attitude.

I cant wait for the next game now. More coffee.

Melo was in fact not the captain. We mistook his yellow wristband as the captains armband. We were also surprised, because Lucio was on the pitch, so thank you and we have corrected the error.
