The World Cup Organising Committee have agreed to include more South African artists at the pre-tournament concert following angry criticism from local performers and the Creative Workers Union.
In a joint statement from the Ministry of Arts and Culture and the Creative Workers Union today they confirm that they have "agreed on the need for the inclusion of additional South African artists" at the event taking place in Soweto on 10 July.
The LOC announced last month that a number of international acts would be performing at the concert, despite having promised that the World Cup would be a truly African event, it featured very few African performers.
The Creative Workers Union were not happy about this and started a Facebook campaign to create awareness and it seems to have worked. At the time they condemned the organisers for "pure contempt" as "there is nothing African about FIFA's so-called African spectacle."
They got their wish and now the event will be having more African artists added to it. The power of Facebook!
