The town has no airport and will be hundreds of kilometres by road from the nearest World Cup action.
A 10 000-capacity stadium costing R25-million is being built and the town is seeking ways to boost its tourism and entertainment potential.
Beaufort West mayor Truman Prince is a Western Cape representative on the South African Football Association executive committee.
Match venues and training grounds will be finalised only in 2008 and Prince said they were doing all they could to be ready by then.
Beaufort West has already secured R9-million from the lottery and the national Department of Sport for its stadium.
"Beaufort West is strategically situated in the centre of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape. So from either way it could be used as a base and our vision is that by 2008 the stadium must meet all the international standards," Prince said.
