When I go to a game in England next season, I expect to hear the crowd singing. When I go to a game in Germany next season I will expect to hear drums and when I go to a game in Italy, I will expect flairs.

My point is, the vuvuzela is part of South African football and I expected to hear it at this World Cup. Is it right to ban it?

We ran a simple poll yesterday; is the vuvuzela a good thing or a bad thing and in eight hours we had just over 1,300 votes and most thought it was a bad thing. I must admit, it is a little annoying, but if you ban it, are you not taking away something that is truly South African from a South African World Cup?

What next; no thongs on the beach in Brazil in 2014 and no standing up at the World Cup in England or wherever in 2018?

We mention this today because Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan was asked the question about banning them and he responded. "If there are grounds to do so, yes.

"We did say that if any land on the pitch in anger we will take action. We've tried to get some order. We have asked for no vuvuzelas during national anthems or stadium announcements. It's difficult but we're trying to manage the best we can."

The vuvuzela is what South African fans do at games. They don't sing, they don't wave scarves or flags and believe it or not, the grounds are filled mostly with South Africans. You take the vuvuzela away and it might all of a sudden become very quiet.

Yes they're annoying, but it is part of the game in South Africa, I just think it is something we should accept and get used to, but that is just the opinion of a fan of South African football who thinks we try to control too many things these days and that people should be allowed to blow on a horn if they want to when it isn't illegal or breaking any rules.
