INTERPOL Major Events Support Team to be deployed for 2010 World Cup

The International Criminal Police Organisation or better known as INTERPOL will be sending the largest ever deployment of officers to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup, to assist South Africa in making sure that the World Cup is as trouble free as possible.

INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald Noble said that there are no known terrorise threats to the World Cup but the decision was made at the sixth annual Heads of National Central Bureaus (NCBs) conference that South Africa’s National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele attended.

INTERPOL’s team will be connected to their global police communications system, providing officers working in the International Police Liaison Centre in South Africa with instant access to INTERPOL’s large number of databases. This access will enable the exchange of messages and police information from all of INTERPOL’s 188 member countries.

Secretary General, Ronald K. Noble
In the same way that South Africa stepped up and provided significant support for the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean, I am sure that our member countries will reciprocate by joining the INTERPOL Major Events Support Team which will help South Africa provide a safe and secure 2010 FIFA World Cup.

This news follows on from a British newspaper publishing a story that all 32 teams competing at the World Cup would be protected by two fighter jets whenever they got on a plane.

Is there going to be a safer place than South Africa this June or July?
