Government probe into French World Cup farce

In yet another example of how far removed some people are from the real world, France's farcical World Cup campaign will be the subject of a government enquiry, Patrice Evra has revealed.

Retired striker Thierry Henry held talks with President Sarkozy after the French team returned home on Thursday and captain Evra said that politicians will make available time, a commodity you would like to think is quite valuable and possibly spent on more important things, to quiz the squad over the infighting in South Africa.

Evra also confirmed what we all knew - that the training boycott was in protest at the decision to send striker Nicolas Anelka home.

"Each one of us will say what they experienced and will say the truth," Evra told French television channel TF1.

"Everyone will give some information from each angle and all sides. It's not the time to stoke up the pain of all the French people," he continued. "It's not now that you have to attack whoever it may be.

"No-one is clear-headed enough to say what really happened because the scar is still open and we are all hurting at the present time."

We can exclusively reveal what is wrong and we can save the French taxpayers paying for this government probe: over indulgence of football players.

It used to be that football players did what they were told, because they had too. Now, they think they are better than everyone else, because we have put them on this pedestal. If the French squad just did what they were told, who knows what would have happened.

But it isn't just the French. Wayne Rooney criticised England supporters for booing and even called into question their loyalty, but nobody will call into question his loyalty to the football club that nurtured him or even his girlfriend when he was found to be sleeping with prostitutes.

The French don't need a government probe - somebody somewhere needs to fix the game, not worry about a few overpaid footballers.
