Germany 4 England 1: England just not good enough

England went 2-0 down in this game, got one back and should have had an equaliser when a Frank Lampard shot hit the crossbar and bounced down 50cm over the line. The referee didn´t give it and the linesman didn´t see it.

Had the referee given the goal the second half could have been different and Gareth Barry might not have demonstrated why he really isn´t good enough for the national side and I might be writing about how England could win the World Cup.

The thing is, the referee didn´t give the goal and it really isn´t an excuse - England were beaten by the better side for so many reasons today that I could spend hours writing about it even though we all know the reasons.

We do have some obvious ones though that I want to mention. John Terry looks slow and nowhere near 100%. You can not play central midfielders on the left and the right of midfield. You can not play Wayne Rooney based on something he did for Manchester United five months ago and hasn´t done for England for a long time.

There are more obvious ones and many many more not so obvious ones, that we are not going to bother with now, it doesn´t seem appropriate.

But we just wanted to say that it had nothing to do with the goal that wasn´t given. England lost because they are just not good enough.

In the same breath and not wanting to put this down to England, Germany looked good, but maybe not good enough to win it this time round. However, if they don´t win silverware with this team in the next 6 years I would be extremely surprised and this year isn´t impossible, especially if they can get past Argentina or Mexico in the next round.
