A German professor has developed a mathematical formula which shows Germany will win the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Funny this, as I'm not a professor, but my formula shows that England will win and my South Africa buddy sat next to me has also written a formula which says South Africa will win and also that and this part is amazing, that it is also time for a beer.
You have to love the Germans. Always first up in the morning on holiday to get the best sunbeds and always the most organised at an event or conference. Have you have been to a German birthday party; timed to the second of birth and if the invite says 2pm everyone turns up at precisely 2pm.
I'm only playing, but what did any of us expect a German professor writing a formula to see who was going to win the World Cup, to come up with? That it was going to Brazil?
Germany face Australia, Serbia and Ghana in Group D and Metin Tolan, a physics professor at the University of Dortmund, is absolutely convinced that German captain Michael Ballack will be lifting the World Cup at the final on July 11th.
"It is very simple, all my calculations prove this," he told Germany magazine "Zeit Wissen".
"The last time we won the World Cup was back in 1990 and there have been four tournaments since," explained Tolan.
"The average finishing place of the Germany team is 3.7 and the German team wins the title every fourth or fifth World Cup. Nobody can beat us this year and you can already put the champagne on ice."
Tolan also predicted that Germany would win the last World Cup but his theory forget to factor in the temperature increase across Germany because of the extra people in the country, because Germany were actually hosting the event.
I don't want to joke to much about a German professor, after all Germany has given us so much, but please, if Germany win the World Cup this year, I'll eat my hat.
