FIFA have announced tonight that they'll no longer be rotating the World Cup from continent to continent which opens the door for anyone to bid for the event in 2018 and we're backing England.

We're backing England because I'm English but also because Australia is a long way to go and it the event really should be played in the spiritual home of the game.

The rotation policy was brought in to allow Africa, as a continent, the opportunity to hold the event which South Africa won in 2005.

South Africa are on now on track and will no doubt show the rest of the footballing community what is available in South Africa as a country but more importantly Africa as a continent. Thanks to the rotation policy, brought in by Sepp Blatter, this has happened and the policy has done exactly what it set out too.

"What we know is FIFA have got to make a big decision to open up the bidding for the World Cup in 2018 and we believe there is a case for doing so," said Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister. "It's going to be discussed next week and the conversations I have had with Mr Blatter have convinced me that this is a possibility."
