In the bid book, the South African Football Association (Safa) had submitted 13 soccer stadiums for the tournament.
Addressing the media today, Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordan said the visit by the seven-member delegation was "the beginning" of the world cup in South Africa.
"They are here to get the feel or to see for themselves our venues to be used during the 2010 [Soccer] World Cup," said Mr Jordan.
FIFA Communications Director Markus Siegler said no decision or announcement would be made about the inspection.
A final decision about the final eight venues would only be made known after the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Among other things, the team will inspect if the stadiums are closer to transport and accommodation facilities.
They started visiting Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg and proceeded to Loftus Stadium in Pretoria today.
They will also visit other stadiums in Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, Durban, the Nelson Mandela Metro and Cape Town.
