Fan Parks: Cape Town the place to be during 2010 World Cup

There will be no shortage of entertainment options during the World Cup but if you are going to be in Cape Town - the destination of choice in our opinion, then you are going to need to know here the fan parks are.

Fan parks; don't you mean fun parks? Erm, no, we mean fan parks. Fan parks are where you can go and watch the football matches if you don't have tickets and Cape Town is boasting more than one; Cape Town is boasting five of them.

The big one is going to be at Grand Parade and it will hold 25,000 people. Don't worry, everyone in Cape Town will be able to point you in the right direction as Grand Parade is hugely significant for South Africans. Grand Parade is where Nelson Mandela made his first speech following his release from prison in 1990.

Grand Parade will open at 10am every day of a match, will show all matches and be open until midnight. It is in an secure enclosed area, is free to enter and food and drinks will be available. Our tip will be to get in early and get comfortable.

There are also four other public viewing areas located at Athlone Civic, Bellville Velodrome, Swartklip Sport Complex and Oliver Tambo, Khayelitsha but we strongly recommend the Grand Parade one or to stay as close to Cape Town city centre as possible.

Other places in Cape Town where you can watch matches are the V&A Waterfront, Long Street and Camps Bay - but pretty much all of Cape Town will come alive in June and July and you will not be far from a venue where you can watch a game.

There is also the Cool Britannia music festival that will have all matches shown and lots of music and the venue will hold up to 12,000 people.
