The first railway line is expected to be finished by the end of 2009. Mashatile said he realises there is a tight time frame, but whoever gets the bid will have the capacity to deliver on time.
Meanwhile, the Gauteng government has launched the Akanani Project Management Academy as a vehicle to address the massive project management skills shortage ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The academy is a partnership between the provincial government, the Da Vinci Institute of Technology Management, and Dornier Consulting.
Ignatius Jacobs, the Gauteng MEC for public transport, roads and works, said project management skills are essential in handling the large scale transport infrastructure projects needed for hosting the World Cup.
