Lee Chun-Soo the new David Beckham?

South Korea came from behind to beat 10 man Togo this afternoon in what was not the best match to watch but still quite exciting.

Togo went one up in the 31st minute when Mohammed Kader latched on to a through ball and he slapped the ball past the South Korean keeper. It was the highlight of the half.

As expected, Italy and Czech Republic both win

New Arsenal signing Tomas Rosicky scored a spectacular goal for the Czech Republic and put a smile on many an Arsenal fans face yesterday as the Czech Republic brushed aside the USA 3-0. Italy beat Ghana in the other game, as expected but not without a fight.

We've not seen many real surprises in terms of results yet but most of the football has certainly been a very pleasant surprise and hats off to the referees; they've let games flow and not brandished as many cards as I'd feared.

Australia leave it late but eventually romp home

We're not about reporting on individual matches but we've just watched Australia in one of the best flowing games of the World Cup so far and just had to say something.

This is what makes the World Cup the greatest sporting event in the world. Australia played how the game was supposed to be played and with six minutes left looked doomed to defeat.

World Cup 2006 Germany kicks off today

This site is focused on South Africa for 2010 but we are football mad and cant wait for Germany to kick off later today. We're naturally backing England but we just cant wait to watch some great football.

We're not going to focus too much on Germany but if there is any news not directly associated with the matches we'll be putting it up but if you're after news from Germany we strongly recommend going to the official site over at www.fifa.com.

Maybe not the last England World Cup song

Rory McGrath and Philip Pope have released The Name is England as a World Cup song. It's something you can all listen to for free here.

We're going to compile a list of all England songs this week so if you have one and we've not mentioned it either send it across to us or a link.

Take part in a World Cup experiment

The Association of Football Statisticians have just set up a World Cup experiment and are looking for some volunteers to take part.

They're conducting a world-wide experiment into The Wisdom of Crowds. It's a new-ish idea based on observations that independent groups of people can be pretty good at making accurate judgments and predictions.

One more England World Cup song: ENG-er-LAND

For weeks now we've said there is only one World Cup song for us and England and it was Branded and Tits Out but today we've got to say it's a tie after hearing ENG-er-LAND by the England Band.

It's a re-work of Sit Down by James. It's a great song but I suspect England will need a little more than a song but I have a feeling this one will be played in a few bars over the next few weeks.

FIFA sell all 'blind' tickets for World Cup matches

Every World Cup match at Germany next month has 10 tickets for blind supporters. Each ticket also means they can bring in a 'seeing' escort into the stadium for free.

Headphones will also be made available so that the fans can hear the commentary in one ear and the stadium sounds in the other. The organising committee said English commentators would be available for all the English team's matches.

Toy firm goes bust after little demand for Goleo

The company producing the mascot for this year's World Cup has declared itself bankrupt after the toy failed to score with consumers.

Bavaria based Nici paid 28 million euros (?19m) for the sole rights to "Goleo", a football-kit-wearing lion.

Strength In Numbers Movement: England World Cup song

We put up a link to an England World Cup song and since then we've had loads sent to us. We will be putting up something about each song but for now we want to point you to the Strength in Numbers Movement song, England.

The song isn't your traditional anthem but a rap and it's a pretty cool one. We expect this to be played in the England dressing room some time during the event as we've just emailed it to someone in the camp asking to give it to one of the players.
