Portugal are fairly sure they know who they will be taking to South Africa next month and as such, have announced today their provisional 24 man squad - six players less than they are allowed but only one more than they have to submit on June 1st.
The big surprise in the squad is Real Madrid defender Pepe who has been out of action since December with a knee injury and has only just returned to light training.
The 24 man squad announced today is listed below.
Goalkeepers: Beto (Porto), Daniel Fernandes (Iraklis), Eduardo (Braga).
Defenders: Fabio Coentrao (Benfica), Paulo Ferreira (Chelsea), Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea), Ze Castro (Deportivo La Coruna), Bruno Alves (Porto), Rolando (Porto), Ricardo Costa (Lille), Duda (Malaga), Pepe (Real Madrid), Miguel (Valencia).
Midfielders: Tiago (Atletico Madrid), Deco (Chelsea), Raul Meireles (Porto), Nani (Manchester United), Miguel Veloso (Sporting Lisbon), Pedro Mendes (Sporting Lisbon).
Strikers: Simao Sabrosa (Atletico Madrid), Hugo Almeida (Werder Bremen), Liedson (Sporting Lisbon), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Danny (Zenit St Petersburg).
Portugal will play in Group G alongside Ivory Coast, Korea DPR and tournament favourites Brazil.
