Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast 0 Portugal 0: Neither side impressed

We don't know if this was a bad game or if Ivory Coast and Portugal just cancelled each other out. For now we are going with the latter, because that is what we want to think about this game and these two teams, but we had hoped for something a little more exciting.

It really was nothing special and the game really had no significant moments. There was quite a bit of falling over if you went near someone and quite a few empty seats, but nothing with the football that made you want to watch the game again.

Ivory Coast v Portugal, World Cup Group G, Match 13

This match offers so much potential. We have Sven Sven Sven Goran Eriksson on one side, who can motivate players if he is getting paid enough and on the other, we have Portugal, who are a team full of quality with Cristiano Ronaldo, who can make football really exciting.

Bags of potential and with the news that Didier Drogba is fit to play and FIFA have cleared him wearing a cast on his arm, we have one of the best strikers in the world playing also who can score from any position and also has a wicked free kick from anywhere within 25 yards out.

Drogba and Ivory Coast wait on FIFA verdict

Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is waiting for FIFA to decide if he will be allowed to play against Portugal tomorrow with a protective cast on his arm.

Drogba fractured his arm in a warm-up match against Japan on June 4th and initial fears were he would miss the World Cup, but after surgery he recovered quicker than expected and is ready to play, if FIFA approve the use of the cast.

Drogba set to join up with Ivory Coast squad tomorrow

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is all set to join up with the Ivory Coast squad tomorrow after successful surgery on a fractured arm, the Ivorian Football Federation said in a statement today.

But they have not given any indication to the players fitness and if he will be playing any time soon.

Ivory Coast beat Japan but Drogba goes off injured

Ivory Coast might have beaten Japan 2-0 in a World Cup warm up match but if you ask Ivory Coast coach Sven Goran Eriksson if he could go back in time and lose and not have a doubt over Didier Drogba - he'd pick the latter.

The match ended 2-0 earlier today but captain Drogba picked up a right arm injury which forced him to go off after just 18 minutes. He is now on his way to hospital for a scan.

Ivory Coast draw in World Cup 2010 warm up

Sven Goran Eriksson took control of the Ivory Coast for the first time against Paraguay yesterday as the two World Cup qualifiers put the finishing touches to their World Cup preparations in France. The game ended 2-2 and while Eriksson will be happy to have not lost, he might be a little concerned with the performance.

There isn't much time to turn things around but the squad are now together and Eriksson is best known for his ability to motivate players. He will have to work all his magic if Ivory Coast are to finish first or second in Group G.

Sven names Ivory Coast 30 man squad for World Cup

Ivory Coast manager Sven Sven Sven-Goran Eriksson has named the 30 man preliminary World Cup squad and fired a very typical Swedish warning that they can not just rely on Didier Drogba goals.

"It's not enough to hope Drogba will go out and score some goals," Eriksson said. "If we don't play as a team, we cannot be impressive. Quality isn't enough in football, you need to work together."
