Brazil name 23 man squad for 2010 World Cup

Tournament favourites Brazil skipped the 30 man preliminary squad earlier today and announced their 23 man squad that will be going to South Africa to likely win the World Cup. Now, they do have a reserve list of seven players, but unless injury prevents one of the 23 from going, the reserve list will very much be just that, a reserve list.

The most notable name missing was Ronaldino but now was the time to "support his selection" according to Brazilian sports minister Orlando Silva.

The 23 man squad for Brazil is listed below.

Goalkeepers: Júlio César (Internazionale), Doni (AS Roma), Heurelho Gomes (Tottenham Hotspur).

Defenders: Maicon (Internazionale), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Michel Bastos (Lyon), Gilberto (Cruzeiro), Lúcio (Internazionale), Juan (AS Roma), Luisão (Benfica), Thiago Silva (Milan).

Midfielders: Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Felipe Melo (Fiorentina), Ramires (Benfica), Elano (Galatasaray), Kaká (Real Madrid), Júlio Baptista (Roma), Kléberson (Flamengo), Josué (VfL Wolfsburg).

Strikers: Robinho (Santos), Luís Fabiano (Sevilla), Nilmar (Villarreal), Grafite (VfL Wolfsburg).

Brazil will play in Group G against Ivory Coast, Portugal and Korea DPR - I think two teams are going to be disappointed they didn't make it in this group, it is a tough one.
