Brazil beat North Korea but North Korea score

At half time it was 0-0 and there was every chance an upset was on the cards. Okay, maybe not every chance, but there was a chance and despite having predicted Brazil would win and having money on it, I sort of would have liked it if they had won. But, it was never going to happen.

But, they did well. The first half was all about getting as many men behind the ball as possible and stopping Brazil at every chance and they did it well. The second was different.

Brazil came out hungry in the second half and it didn't take long for them to score and many will say Maicon meant this goal but I don't think he did and having watched it a few times now I'm convinced he didn't - he didn't look up.

Maicon overlaps Elano down the right and Elano pushes the ball forward. Maicon reaches the by-line and goes to cross, instead, the cross goes in. It looked good, but he didn't mean it but because he is playing for Brazil, it will be hailed as magnificent. It wasn't really. Now, their second goal was special.

The second was something you dream about, well I do anyway. Robinho had the ball on the left, about 40 yards out and he passes, not in the air or hopefully, but across the pitch and behind three or four North Korea players, inch perfect to the oncoming Elano who then very perfectly shoots and scores. Not need to set it up or control it, it just arrived to exactly where he wanted it. Perfect.

But the news of the night is that North Korea got a goal with a couple of minutes left and for those two minutes they believed it was possible. So did I. It was great for them to get a goal and while I don't think we will see the surprise from them that I thought we might after watching them tonight, they might get another one or two in this World Cup. Here is hoping.
