Nani out of World Cup

Portugal will be without winger Nani for the World Cup after he picked up a shoulder injury last week.

I wanted to write influential winger about Nani but he isn't really, despite having a much better end to the season with Manchester United. He would be with most teams, but with Ronaldo, Portugal can feel confident that they have the best in the business.

North Korea lose to Nigeria in World Cup warm up match

Nigeria beat North Korea 3-1 in a World Cup warm-up this afternoon but the game was overshadowed by a stampede which caused at least 14 people to be treated for injuries.

The 'incident' happened before kick-off when fans tried to get entry into the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa and didn't impact the actual match and it kicked off on time, however it was a scare.

Ivory Coast beat Japan but Drogba goes off injured

Ivory Coast might have beaten Japan 2-0 in a World Cup warm up match but if you ask Ivory Coast coach Sven Goran Eriksson if he could go back in time and lose and not have a doubt over Didier Drogba - he'd pick the latter.

The match ended 2-0 earlier today but captain Drogba picked up a right arm injury which forced him to go off after just 18 minutes. He is now on his way to hospital for a scan.

North Korea name striker as goal keeper in squad list

North Korea named an extra striker as a goalkeeper in their squad list but their plan to be able to use him as an extra striker has backfired today.

FIFA have told North Korea that Kim Myong-Won, who usually plays as a centre-forward, will only be able to play as a goalkeeper in the World Cup.

Video: Brazil beat Zim in World Cup warm up match

Brazil beat Zimbabwe 3-0 in Harare in front of thousands of fans witnessing the first visit to the country by a non-African national team since 1980 and they were not disappointed.

Brazil were using the game as a warm-up before the World Cup starting next week, won with goals from Michel Bastos, Robinho and Elano.

Portugal name 23 man squad for World Cup 2010

We know little here at the World Cup 2010 website about the Portugal squad. We know many of the players yes, but we must admit we are a little unsure about this side, how they have played together and how we expect them to do, so we asked Ricardo, our Portuguese friend.

Ricardo wasn't surprised that Carlos Queiroz picked Pepe, despite him not playing for real Madrid since December but he is a little upset that Ze Castro was the player that made way. So upset that a little tear appeared in his eye.

Ivory Coast draw in World Cup 2010 warm up

Sven Goran Eriksson took control of the Ivory Coast for the first time against Paraguay yesterday as the two World Cup qualifiers put the finishing touches to their World Cup preparations in France. The game ended 2-2 and while Eriksson will be happy to have not lost, he might be a little concerned with the performance.

There isn't much time to turn things around but the squad are now together and Eriksson is best known for his ability to motivate players. He will have to work all his magic if Ivory Coast are to finish first or second in Group G.

Brazil arrive in South Africa and Kaka tweets

Brazil have landed. Cool as you like the players strolled through the airport, jumped on their bus and left for their five star hotel in Randburg. They will be taking it easy today with possibly some light training, but it is business as usual from tomorrow.

With Australia arriving in South Africa last night and tournament favourites landing this morning, excitement in South Africa is increasing and the reality of the World Cup is finally hitting home.

Brazilian genius Kaka has insisted he will be 100% fit for the World Cup, despite recent concerns over form and fitness for his club and after missing last Sunday's match for his club side Real Madrid.

"I'm going to be evaluated, they will see my condition and that I won't have any problems," said the 28-year-old.

FIFA release North Korea World Cup 2010 squad names

North Korea is a place where you don't want to put a foot wrong and they were very secretive about who they were sending to South Africa for the World Cup next month, but FIFA today released the preliminary squad list for every country so we can now publish the one for North Korea.

What we can tell you is that only three players on this list play outside of North Korea; An Yong-hak and Jong Tae-se, who play in Japan for Omiya Ardija and Kawasaki Frontale and Hong Yong-jo, who plays for Russian side FK Rostov.
