Have New Zealand really named their squad?

New Zealand have named a preliminary 23 man squad for the World Cup in South Africa. We are calling it preliminary because they have three weeks before the FIFA squad deadline and things can change between now and then.

Two players, Winston Reid and Aaron Clapham are part of the squad selected having never played for the national team before. If you have a New Zealand passport raise your hand - it appears they are desperate for players.

Marcello Lippi names preliminary World Cup squad

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has named twenty-nine players for a three-day training camp in Rome and he is expected to name his final World Cup squad from these players and the Inter Milan and Roma team, who are not joining up, as they are playing in Wednesday's Coppa Italia final.

Italy coach Lippi defends his old squad

Italy coach Marcello Lippi is confident his experienced side will impress at the World Cup in South Africa this summer despite concerns locally that the players might not be up to the task and Lippi is coming under criticism for not bringing through enough youngsters.

The 62-year-old coach insists that the age of his side is not the most important factor and that there are many other qualities that are needed to have a successful World Cup.
