We are truly united - Japan coach Takeshi Okada

We mentioned it yesterday after the match, but we will say it again; Japan surprised us and it is clear as day that they have worked on set pieces and that the way they play football is focused on the team.

Their coach Takeshi Okada is also keen to stress that it is a team game and that Japan have more to show us.

"Our team has a strength that others don't have. We are truly united. We wanted to demonstrate that football is a team game. We knew we could have made it with a draw but we did not want to be passive," he told a press conference.

"Denmark put us under pressure at the start and we had some risky situations, so we changed the formation and we were able to score two free-kicks that put us in the driving seat.

"We will enjoy this but we have not achieved our final objective. We have to go for more, starting with what will be a first game in the knock-out stages, against Paraguay. The players will have a break tonight and tomorrow we start working again."

We are looking forward to Japan and Paraguay and we think Japan might surprise us again.

Japan and Cameroon almost bore entire office to sleep

Japan beat Cameroon in a match that I didn't expect much from and ultimately I wasn't disappointed. It does mean that we have only predicted seven out of ten matches correctly this World Cup and we also fancy our little run is coming to an end after predicting a draw between Italy and Paraguay tonight.

But Italy and Paraguay are for later. For now, we have to look at Japan and Cameroon and I really did nod off for a moment in the second half when nothing seemed to be happening.

Japan v Cameroon, World Cup Group E, Match 10

I have to say from the beginning that I live Bloemfontein and I miss it. There, said it, now time for the football and I believe it will be one of these two teams that join the Dutch in the last sixteen so I'm expecting a good game.

Japan have gotten better over the years and they are determined. Cameroon will be well supported and they also have some very experienced players that know all about the big stage.

Japan name 23 man squad for 2010 World Cup

It appears that national football managers all over the planet are going squad naming crazy today despite having three weeks left before having to officially submit 23 man squads to FIFA.

Hot on the heels of New Zealand naming a 23 man squad, we have the news that Japan have named a squad also.

World Cup latest fad picked up by Japan: Oxygen tents

Japan's coach, Takeshi Okada, has ordered his players to use oxygen masks ahead of the World Cup to build up their high-altitude resistance, much like what Fabio Capello is doing with the England team.

Okada, whose team play two of their Group E games at more than 1,000 metres above sea level, is to commit his players to using the masks for an hour a day while tents may be used for some of the players at home.
