World Cup beckons for Kevin Kuranyi as Joachim Loew opens door for return

Germany coach Joachim Loew admitted today that he is thinking about ending Kevin Kuranyi's exile from the national team and taking the striker to the World Cup in South Africa this year.

Loew vowed never to select Kuranyi again after he turned his back on the national team in October 2008 out of frustration at being omitted from the squad although he did later apologise.

Loew is forced to go back on his earlier statement because first-choice strikers Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski are both struggling for form and Kuranyi has scored 18 goals for Schalke 04 so far this season. He is the German striker on form.

Joachim Loew
I am aware of my responsibility as the coach of the national team, but we cannot be influenced by the public pressure. We will watch the next few games closely and we will make an announcement at the end of the month.

The German Football Federation will announce their squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa on May 6th and with Kuranyi just one goal behind the Bundesliga's top scorer, Edin Dzeko, there is every chance the public will be demanding that Lowe pick the players that give Germany the best chance of success in South Africa.
