Germany were the only team that really impressed in the first round of matches when they thrashed Australia and while that could be because it was Australia, they still impressed - but it turns out they could have an advantage over many other teams.

You see, the German league have played with the new World Cup 2010 ball for the past season.

It probably isn't that much of an advantage - it is only a ball and it is round and other leagues were offered it and other leagues probably played with it too, but the Premier League didn't and well, that is where our interest is.

But Germany will beat Serbia - it is written.

Prediction

England is my banker bet today but I might have a double with Germany and if I have a beer at lunchtime before the first match I might even add the United States to that betting slip.

Germany are going to be too good today by a country mile and I wouldn't be surprised if they scored another four, for fun.

We are not the fantastic team which everyone makes us out to be, but we have every reason to look forward to the Serbia game with quiet confidence. It will be a different type of game as they desperately need a win. We won't win every game 4-0, but we have nothing to fear.

Germany were very impressive against Australia. They have made the biggest impact at the World Cup so far. They are like a machine, they have seven players going forward. If we want to upset them, we will have to show no fear and play the best we can, because we face a better team.
