It was not a red card - Bastian Schweinsteiger

Australian midfielder Tim Cahill broke down in tears last night after he was sent off in Australia's 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Germany in Group D at the World Cup.

Cahill was fairly harshly red carded in the 56th minute for a challenge on Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Kewell and Emerton train for Australia ahead of World Cup

Three bits of news for Australian football fans today and while none of it is bad news or going to get you that worried about your chances in South Africa, it is a little interesting.

The news all comes from quite an intensive two hour training session last night and seeing as we always like good news at the end, we will start with the not so good news.

Australia might be looking for new training venue

Australia might quit their designated FIFA World Cup training base, if the condition of the grass does not improve very quickly after a friendly match with the United States tomorrow.

Australia coach Pim Verbeek has confirmed that they are already looking at alternatives if the pitch is left in it's current state after the friendly match with the United States this weekend.

Australia give us Neighbours and a 31 man squad

The rules are quite specific when it comes to squad size and the preliminary squad announced by Australia a few hours ago isn't going to be the same one that they officially submit to FIFA today. The final list that has to be submitted today will have 30 names, not 31 like the one below. It appears one person from this list below is going to miss out.

There is the surprise inclusion of Harry Kewell, who it turns out hasn't been injured since he hobbled off in the 2005 Champions League final and has in fact played a bit of football. Head coach Pim Verbeek is also confident he will be fit for the Group D opener against Germany on June 13th.

Australia confirm friendly match against Denmark

Australia will play Denmark on June 1st at Ruimsig Stadium in Johannesburg as part of the teams' preparations for the 2010 World Cup.

The match, announced today by the Australian Football Federation, is the third and final warm-up match scheduled before the start of the World Cup and their opening match against Germany on June 13th.
