They started the day top of Group C but they ended it on a plane home while England - who started the day in third place finish in second and will now likely face Germany at the weekend in what is sure to be one of the matches of the tournament, or will be billed that way but the English media anyway.
The winning goal was scored by Jermaine Defoe from a James Milner cross in the 22nd minute and despite a chance or two more in the game, that was the only goal.
Later on in the game Wayne Rooney was taken off with what appears to be an ankle injury and that will be considered a blow for the English but we think England might just do better with Crouch and Defoe up front - they did well together in the league this season and Rooney doesn't seem to be as friendly with the goal in an England shirt as he does with a Manchester United short.
But all that matters now is that England have finally won a game at the World Cup and they have now qualified for the last sixteen. It also doesn't matter if they get Germany or not - they will have to play the best teams to win and we think they can beat Germany - we are just not that sure they will be able to beat Argentina.
