The result really does mean nothing but it will likely do a lot for confidence and it might also have helped Fabio Capello with the decision he has to make by June 1st.
England ended up beating Mexico by a fairly convincing scoreline but the performance from Mexico showed glimpses of why they might be a surprise.
The performance from England might also worry Capello but he did have the likes of Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and John Terry sitting this one out, so while it probably hasn´t changed who he will want to start with in South Africa, it is possible that one or two players did themselves a favor or two tonight in terms of getting named in the 23.
Still work to do for England and Mexico shouldn´t and probably won´t get to down over this result as they were lively and did show signs of what could come.
