Matthew Upson has shrugged off criticism made by Franz Beckenbauer in the South African press yesterday. We suspect he is waiting for later today until Herr Beckenbauer writes something nice about English football.
Beckenbauer basically said that England have gone backwards under manager Fabio Capello, who was the manager that got England to South Africa. Not very professional in the middle of a tournament.
Upson however has just shrugged it off. "We will play the football that suits us best," he told reporters.
"We want to win matches, so we will play the style according to that. Whatever he thinks about our style of play is his opinion. If we are accused of kick and rush but win something, I don't think many people would complain."
He is right - as long as England win, it doesn't matter.
