England coach Fabio Capello has put Manchester City winger Adam Johnson on notice that he might be taking a trip to South Africa this summer.
Capello was asked by the Daily Mail if there were any young English players that had impressed him and he replied "Adam Johnson. He’s come up from the Championship at Middlesbrough, where he played in a different position, and he’s done well with Manchester City. It’s important he gets some international experience."
Johnson is a former England Under-21 international and it now looks likely he will get called up to the full squad for next month's friendly against Mexico.
Capello has already lost David Beckham from his squad for South Africa, while there are still question marks hanging over the participation of injured Tottenham wideman Aaron Lennon. A perfect opportunity for Adam Johnson.
