In what might be seen as the surprise result of the night Italy slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico - the same Mexico that was beaten by England a couple of weeks ago, but also the same Mexico that showed us glimpses of what might be possible.

Well tonight, it was possible and they put Italy to bed with a warm cup of milk and stories of San Pedro and the devil.

Like all squads this one announced by the Mexican Football Federation here will be confirmed on June 4th by FIFA, at which time we will add it to the team page for Mexico, but for now, this is the squad that has been announced and this is the squad we will list.

The focus for Mexico seems to be about scoring goals as they have picked eight strikers to travel to South Africa and only five midfielders and one of those midfielders that appears to be have been sacrificed for gaols is Barcelona player Jonathan dos Santos.

I'm a big fan of Mexican football and I always like to watch Mexico play. They always seem to come so close but always seem to lose it in the end. This World Cup promises to be a big one for them but how many times have we thought that about Mexico?

Javier Aguirre could have picked 30 players but he has made his mind up on who he really wants on the plane and is just a little undecided about a few so he only picked 26 players for the preliminary squad.
