South Africa likely to win the 2010 World Cup! PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 31 January 2008

Well, that's the message coming from South African Football Association vice president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana this week.

“I believe South Africa will win the World Cup in 2010. And in the highly unlikely event that South Africa do not win the World Cup, another African team will.” he told a gathering in Tamale on Monday.

Many years ago, football great Pele predicted that an African nation would win the World Cup by 2006, or that might have been 2002 - it was that long ago, I don't remember the specific and can't find it on the net. But his prediction could come true in 2010.

There is certainly no better time for it as South Africa will be playing at home and many African nations will feel playing in South Africa is an advantage for them over other teams not used to the conditions.

It's funny though, because during the build up to the 2006 World Cup, whichever country Pele happened to be in, he would predict a good World Cup for that particular country - he and Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana might very well have it right for 2010 though.
