If you're an Australian you're going to be feeling gutted at the moment so we'll keep this short and sweet. Italy are through to the quarter finals thanks to another poor referring decision.
Italy were reduced to 10 men after 50 minutes and will consider themselves lucky to have won but they did put the work in.
The referee gave a penalty with 6 seconds of injury time remaining for a player who dived over a player after he made an unsuccessful tackle.
The two incidents were different. Lucas Neill went to tackle Fabio Grosso but failed. Fabio Grosso then waited before simply falling over the player in the general direction of the goal.
Francesco Totti took the penalty the way all penalties should be taken and Italy win.
Italy will meet the winners of Switzerland v Ukraine; should be an interesting match. |
