Not just because they scored 4 goals and won comfortably but if you had to pick two or three teams after the first match who you thought could go on to win the tournament you'd be in the minority if you didn't pick Spain.
They played the game today the way it is supposed to be played. The passed well, created space, used the channels well and most importantly didn't give the ball away easily.
Vladislav Vashchuk was sent off for Ukraine very early in the second half for pulling back Fernado Torres. From the resulting penalty David Villa scored his second (first in the 17th) and put Spain 3-0 after a goal in the 13th minute from Xabi Alonso and made the task for Ukraine impossible.
A well taken goal from Fernado Torres with 10 minutes to go after some great build up from Carles Puyol and Cesc Fabregas makes it 4-0 and game over.
I really quite fancy Spain on that performance and wouldn't like to be the team who finishes second in group G because Spain will win the group and beat whoever they meet in the second round. |
