The Association of Football Statisticians have just set up a World Cup experiment and are looking for some volunteers to take part.
They're conducting a world-wide experiment into The Wisdom of Crowds. It's a new-ish idea based on observations that independent groups of people can be pretty good at making accurate judgments and predictions.
They're running this experiment for the next few days and will publish the results right before the World Cup starts. Basically all you have to do is visit the website and assign a percentage against a team based on likelihood to win.
Individually the results are quite haphazard but if you average all the different perspectives (so the idea goes) you come up with something that's quite accurate.
A voting area is here - instead of having that coffee this afternoon, have a go at this; the results will be very interesting. |
