Finance Minister Trevor Manuel says 34.6 billion rand in additional funds over the baseline were earmarked for infrastructure over the next three years. This included an amount of just over 10 billion rand for the Gautrain and World Cup 2010 stadiums.
In reply to a written question from Democratic Alliance MP Eddie Trent, Manuel said in 2006/07 a total of 8.75 billion rand "has been allocated over baseline".
Excluding the Gautrain and World Cup stadium the total amount was 5.1 billion rand for this financial year. He was asked by Trent how much had been earmarked for "critical infrastructure"- apart from the funds for the Gautrain and 2010 soccer World Cup tournament.
For the 2007/08 and 2008/09 years, totals of 10.33 billion rand and 15.52 billion rand respectively had been committed over the baseline for infrastructure within the national budget.
"Excluding the Gautrain and the World Cup stadiums, the totals for these years are 7.18 billion rand and 12.19 billion rand , respectively," said Manuel. |
