No smoking at World Cup finals PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 25 February 2006

Are you travelling to the World Cup Finals in Germany later this year and do you smoke? If you are and you do you're not going to like what FIFA and the German government have come up with; no smoking during the matches.

"We have agreed on a clear call: 'No smoking, please'. To back it up, a TV advert will be shown in every stadium," said Sabine Baetzing, the German government's specialist on drug issues in an interview with Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

"Other messages will be given over the sound system, on posters and whole-page adverts will be included in the match programmes." and FIFA will be contributing to the cost of the operation.

The no smoking policy requires the participation of the travelling fans and will not be enforced by the police so it's more of a request than an order but you have been warned.
