A FIFA delegation has completed a low-key first visit to South Africa since the country was awarding the hosting of the 2010 World Cup finals. Officials said on Wednesday various technical and legal matters were discussed before the FIFA team left on Tuesday.
"FIFA are seeking to get the whole hosting process going as soon as possible and will be establishing an office in South Africa early in the year," said Danny Jordaan, who headed the country's successful bid committee. A four-man committee, of which Jordaan is a member, has been mandated to set up local organising structures, expected to be finalised in the next months. South Africa won the right to host the 2010 World Cup in May when they beat off bids from Morocco and Egypt. They are the first African country to host the event. |
