South Africa's 2010 World Cup preparations are well on track, Preliminary Local Organising Committee chairman Dr Irvin Khoza confirmed on Wednesday.
He said a meeting with FIFA in Zurich this week was "very productive". "We learnt a lot and were shown how to structure the local organising committee which will oversee the running of the 2010 World Cup finals," said Khoza. Khoza also disclosed that the South African government, The South African Football Assocation and the FIFA organisation association will form a committee to help run the 2010 World Cup. Government guarantees on hosting the biggest soccer show on earth were also discussed by FIFA. On that score there is no worries. The government has always backed the 2010 World Cup bid and has been one of the major supporters of Safa winning the right to stage the 2010 World Cup finals. "We also had an address by FIFA president Sepp Blatter which was informative. FIFA outlined their vision for the hosting of the 2010 World Cup. We are on the right path. We know we can deliver the goods and look forward to the challenges ahead," said Khoza. "It was the kick-off meeting for the World Cup and it went extremely well." |
