World controlling soccer body Fifa have started the ball rolling to ensure that their prized possession, and the first ever World Cup tournament to be staged on the African continent, is successful.

Fifa General Secretary, Urs Linsi, has written a letter to the South African Football Association (Safa) inviting the successful 2010 World Cup host to Fifa House in Zurich, Switzerland to lay the foundation towards staging the event.

"We again take this opportunity to congratulate the South African Football Association for being elected by the Fifa Executive Committee to host the 2010 Fifa World Cup," said the Secretary General.

"The Fifa Executive Committee was impressed by the presentations made by your delegation on the 14th May in Zurich and the bid documentation that was sent to Fifa. The result is a confirmation of the Fifa Inspection Group's report."

The letter goes on to express Fifa's aim to work closely with the South Africans in order to make the 2010 World Cup in the country a "huge success"."We are certain that the professionalism, commitment and efficiency that was evident throughout the bid stage will be carried forward for the organisation of football's most prestigious event.

"In addition, we hope that the enthusiasm and scenes of joyous South African fans that we saw on television after the announcement of your successful bid, will be reflected in every way during the competition.

"Fifa would like to propose that we hold a kick-off meeting in Zurich sometime in late June/early July in order to start organizing the 2010 Fifa World Cup together. Therefore, please send us dates which are convenient for you and your team so that we can organize the meeting."

South African 2010 World Cup Bid CEO, Danny Jordaan, said the South Africans were looking tentatively at the first week of July to meet with Fifa to start the ball rolling and mentioned that they are excited and looking forward to the meeting.
