The 2006 World Cup will be played without the 2010 World Cup host. South Africa was eliminated from contention when Ghana beat Uganda 2-0 Sunday. A day earlier, the South Africans lost 3-1 at Burkina Faso.

To guarantee the success of the 2010 World Soccer Cup, South Africa will modernize and refurbish 10 stadiums in nine provinces to have them ready for competition, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Rev. Makhenkesi Stofile, said.
It is the first time in the history of the soccer World Cup, which started in 1930, that the competition will be hosted by an African nation. |

I've just had the phone put down on me by somebody that works at 2010 Local Organising Committee and to say I am shocked is an understatement. As many of the regular visitors to the website will know we've had problems with Danny Jordaan but as a sign of respect we decided to inform him that we have had several offers in for this website since we decided to sell it last week. The lady that answered the phone said they were not interested in talking to me as soon as I mentioned the word 'website' and before I had even told her the reason I was calling. |

The benefits of hosting the 2010 World Cup are not as great as originally expected, Sport and Recreation Committee chairperson Butana Komphela said in parliament on Thursday.
"The spin-offs are not as great as we thought. We are very worried about this," Komphela said, noting that Fifa - the world football body - would arrange certain of its own business agreements that could be detrimental to South Africa's general commercial interests.
